Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga has its origins in ancient Hindu and Indian traditions with roots extending back over two thousand years. It is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline that assists practitioners in developing strength, consciousness, and character. Often referred to as “the Yoga of Awareness,” Kundalini Yoga focuses on expansion of intuition and sensory awareness, combining meditation and yoga practices to elevate individual consciousness and merge it with the Infinite consciousness of God/The Universe.

Ila Barlean is a certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor and teaches this form of Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, to both individuals and groups.

The word “Kundalini” literally means “the curl of the lock of hair of the beloved,” a poetic expression that alludes to the flow of energy and consciousness that exists within each of us and enables us to merge with the universal Self through yoga practices that include physical movement, breathwork, mantras, and meditation. This form of yoga was passed orally from Master to student for thousands of years and then was finally formalized into a school and instructor certification by Yogi Bhajan after he came to the United States in 1969. The main objective of Kundalini Yoga is to awaken the full potential of awareness in each person who practices it and then expand their awareness to the unlimited Self – which is why this yoga tradition is known as the Yoga of Awareness. Rather than just focusing on the physical plane, Kundalini Yoga includes the mental, spiritual, and energetic planes of human existence as well, making it the most comprehensive and complete yoga practice.
